The Blocks on egldscan.io allows you to view the latest blocks added to the MultiversX blockchain. You can explore block height, timestamp, number of transactions, shard, gas used, and the validator who proposed the block.

What is a Block on MultiversX?

MultiversX uses Adaptive State Sharding and produces blocks approximately every 6 seconds. Because of sharding, the network creates multiple shard blocks in parallel, which are then notarized into Hyperblocks (the final confirmed blocks visible on the main chain).

Each block contains:

  • A list of transactions (including miniblocks)
  • Validator/proposer information
  • Gas usage and fees
  • Previous block hash
  • Timestamp and round number

Key Block Metrics Explained

MetricDescriptionImportance
Block HeightUnique sequential number of the blockHigh
TimestampDate and time when the block was proposedHigh
TransactionsNumber of transactions included in the blockHigh
ShardThe shard where this block was produced (0, 1, 2, or Meta)Technical
ProposerValidator / Node that proposed the blockMedium
Gas UsedAmount of gas consumed in the blockMedium
HashUnique identifier (hash) of the blockTechnical

How Blocks Work on MultiversX

  1. Shard Blocks — Produced independently by each shard.
  2. Miniblocks — Small batches of transactions grouped by sender/receiver shard.
  3. Hyperblocks — Final notarized blocks that provide finality across the entire network.

This architecture allows MultiversX to achieve very high throughput (theoretical max of 15,000+ TPS) while keeping fees extremely low.
